Adaptive auger head introduced by Dredge Yard

Dredge Yard adds another innovative dredging solution to their portfolio: the adaptive auger head. The adaptive auger head has two retractable visors placed both on the front and backside of the auger head. The visors move in and out, according to the shape of the seabed and according to the depth. A hydraulic arrangement and pressure settings enable this automatic visor movement. The adaptive auger head achieves several benefits by following the ground during dredging.

Benefits of the adaptive auger head

  1. More production of the sand in less time. The adaptive visors create a strong suction vacuum by continuously following ground.
  2. Much less turbidity than with conical (basket) type cutter heads. Because the adaptive visors control the material spillage. This is a big advantage when dredging in contaminated areas.
  3. The adaptive system saves marine life by protecting animals from entering the suction system in the dredger.
  4. This system ensures an even surface at all depths.
  5. It is suitable for unmanned dredging. The adaptive visors automatically adjust with the ground. That makes them very useful for remote controlled dredgers that work in areas where environment is risky for operators.
  6. The solution perfect for environmental dredging. The adaptive visors keep marine life from getting trapped in the dredging system. They also cause low or even zero turbidity.

The adaptive auger head is, as mentioned above, perfect for environmental dredging or remediation for a number of reasons:

  1. Adaptive auger head supports cleanup operations that are specifically aimed at removing contaminated sediments that can endanger marine and human life.
  2. Remediation dredging means that the thinnest layers possible are accurately removed so that the least possible quantities of contaminated material are dredged.
  3. Treatment of contaminated sediment is costly and secure disposal areas are limited, precision dredging offers a viable solution. Contaminated sediments can be a big risk to human health, the environment and it may limit the use of many water bodies.
  4. The adaptive visors enclose the area being dredged and prevent sediment from drifting into the surrounding waters.

Dredge Yard delivers multipurpose cutter suction dredger

Dredge Yard delivered a multipurpose cutter suction dredger ECO 200 to a real estate developer in the United Arab Emirates for the reshaping and maintenance of existing islands. The ECO 200 dredger will be used for connecting some of the islands and deepening the sea entrance between the islands. Due to current and erosion, the coast of the islands changes with the years. For this reason, it is necessary to perform periodical maintenance to keep the shape of the islands and maintain a pleasant beach. In some areas the beach is flooded by new soft types of sand that makes it difficult for visitors to enjoy the beautiful clear waters of the Emirates. In other places it is necessary to maintain the water depth for yachts and workboats to visit the area. Dredging is the only way to maintain artificial and natural shaped islands and beaches.

The ECO 200 Cutter Suction Dredger

The ECO 200 dredger is equipment with a heavy-duty cutter head and underwater dredge pump for high performance and for pumping a high-density mixture of sand. The high dredging performance will speed up the dredging process to limit the time involved in maintenance. For easy mobilization the dredger is provided with two hydraulic propulsions. The ECO 200 Cutter Suction Dredger can pump the sand up to 1500m and dredge up to 6 meters depth. One of the advantages of the ECO dredger is the use for dredging in small and shallow areas that are difficult for bigger dredgers to enter. The draft of the ECO dredger is only 0.7m. This multipurpose cutter suction dredger is delivered completely assembled and launched into the water by mobile crane.

Dredge Turning Glands

The dredge turning glands will be used on board of several TSHD and they are designed according to the customer’s requirements and applications using the latest 3D CAD technologies and Finite Element Analysis to ensure achieving an optimum strength and stiffness.

Manufacturing

The turning glands are manufactured from cast carbon steel and fabricated steel and machined and assembled with Dredge Yard partners and Dredge Yard facility in the United Arab Emirates.

The inner pipe of the turning gland is made out of one casting to make the complete design stronger and stiffer while saving weight and material. Dredge Yard quality control inspectors scrutinize all the dredge turning glands during and after their production stages carrying out various tests such as the chemical composition and mechanical properties test, measurement test of all dimensions after casting and machining, ultra sonic testing, magnetic particle, surface roughness test and dye penetrant inspection for critical parts, measurement test of all dimensions after machining, hardness test, assembly and interchange ability test, visual inspection for all parts during and after assembly.
