What is a Bow Coupling?

A bow coupling is a specialized connection system used on hopper dredgers to enable quick and secure attachment of discharge pipelines at the bow of the vessel. These couplings allow for rapid connection and disconnection during shore discharge or rainbow discharge operations.

The bow coupling must withstand high pressures during pumping while providing a leak-free seal. It also needs to accommodate vessel movement and pipeline loads without disconnecting accidentally. Fail-safe locking mechanisms ensure the coupling remains secure during operation.
